Corfe Coaching
Terms & Conditions
These terms set out the agreement between you and Corfe Coaching when you book any coaching session, guided trip, expedition, or award course with us. Please read them before you book — by paying your deposit, you're confirming that you've read, understood and accepted them.
Last updated: June 2026
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
1.1 In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Corfe Coaching, a paddlesport coaching and guiding business based in the Scottish Highlands. You can reach us at corfecoaching@gmail.com or on 07538 129422.
1.2 "Course" is used as shorthand for any of our services — coaching sessions, guided trips, multi-day expeditions, and award training or assessment — unless we say otherwise.
1.3 These terms form the contract between us. They don't affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
1.4 We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on our website when you book is the one that applies to your booking.
2. Booking and your contract with us
2.1 To book, get in touch and we'll confirm whether your chosen dates and course are available. Your place is reserved once we've confirmed it and received your deposit (see section 3).
2.2 A binding contract is formed at the point we confirm your booking and your deposit has been received. Until then, prices and availability can change.
2.3 When you book, you confirm that the information you've given us — including your paddling experience, ability and any medical details — is accurate and complete. Your safety, and other people's, depends on this.
2.4 Prices and details shown on our website and social media are an invitation to book, not an offer, and don't form a contract. We may correct genuine errors or out-of-date prices before we confirm your booking.
3. Prices, deposits and payment
3.1 All prices are in pounds sterling (£). Corfe Coaching is not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is charged.
3.2 A 20% booking deposit is payable when you book, to confirm and secure your place. The deposit is non-refundable except where we cancel (see section 6).
3.3 The remaining balance must be paid in full no later than two weeks (14 days) before your course begins.
3.4 For bookings made within two weeks of the start date, the full fee is payable at the time of booking.
3.5 Our preferred payment method is bank transfer; details are on your invoice. Please use your invoice number as the payment reference.
3.6 If the balance isn't paid by the due date, we may treat the booking as cancelled by you, keep the deposit, and offer the place to someone else. If a payment is returned or fails, we may pass on any reasonable bank or admin costs.
4. Changing your booking
4.1 If your plans change, contact us as early as you can and we'll always try to help.
4.2 You can ask to move to another date or course, in writing, and we'll do our best to accommodate you subject to availability. Requests made within two weeks of the start date will be treated as a cancellation (see section 5).
4.3 With our agreement, you can transfer your place to someone else, provided their experience and ability suit the course.
5. If you need to cancel
5.1 All cancellations must be made in writing (email is fine). Your cancellation takes effect once we've acknowledged it.
5.2 Your 20% deposit is non-refundable.
5.3 From the point your full balance is due — two weeks (14 days) before the start date — the full fee is non-refundable if you cancel. The charges are:
When you cancel What you pay More than 14 days before the start date Your 20% deposit (non-refundable) 14 days or fewer before the start, or no-show The full fee (non-refundable)
5.4 Once the full fee is payable it is non-refundable. If we manage to re-sell your place we may, at our discretion, offer you a credit towards a future course, but we can't guarantee this.
5.5 We strongly recommend taking out cancellation insurance when you book, so you're covered if you have to pull out for reasons we can't refund — illness, work, family or travel disruption, for example.
6. If we change or cancel a course
6.1 We'll always do our best to run a course as planned. Occasionally we may have to change or cancel it — for example because of unsafe weather or water conditions, too few people booked, coach illness, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
6.2 If we cancel a course, you can choose either a full refund of everything you've paid us, or a transfer to another date.
6.3 We may change the coach, the venue, or the stretch of water or coast for safety or operational reasons, while keeping to the overall aims of the course.
6.4 We're not responsible for other costs you may have spent around a course — travel, accommodation, equipment, or time off work — which is another reason we recommend insurance (section 14).
7. Weather, conditions and on-the-day decisions
7.1 Paddlesport depends on weather, tides, sea state and river levels, all of which can change quickly.
7.2 The lead coach has the final say on whether, where and how a session runs, and may adapt, relocate, shorten or end a session at any time in the interests of safety. Where a decision is made on safety grounds, we'll aim to deliver the aims of the course another way; it doesn't automatically entitle you to a refund.
8. Your experience, fitness and health
8.1 Please choose a course that matches your current ability, and get in touch if you're not sure it's right for you — we're happy to advise.
8.2 Be honest with us about your experience. Coaching and guiding decisions, and your safety, rely on it.
8.3 You must tell us about any medical conditions, injuries, medication, pregnancy or anything else that could affect your safety or ours, on the booking or medical form, and let us know of any changes before the course starts.
8.4 You should be in good enough general health and fitness for the activity you've booked.
8.5 We may decline or withdraw a booking on reasonable safety or medical grounds. Where we can, we'll suggest something more suitable.
9. Safety and your responsibilities
9.1 Paddlesport and other adventurous activities carry an inherent risk of injury, which can occasionally be serious. By booking, you understand and accept that risk.
9.2 You must follow the coach's safety briefings and instructions at all times.
9.3 We may ask anyone to stop taking part or to leave a session, without a refund, if their behaviour or actions put themselves or others at risk, or if they appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
9.4 If it becomes clear that someone's ability isn't suited to the course, we may, for safety, ask them to step back and will try to offer a more appropriate option.
10. Participants under 18
10.1 Anyone under 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian who understands and accepts the risks of the activity. A consent and medical form must be completed and returned before the course.
10.2 Depending on the activity, under-18s may need to be accompanied by a participating parent or guardian. We'll confirm the arrangements with you when you book.
10.3 Where a group includes under-18s, the group organiser is responsible for those young people outside session times.
11. Equipment
11.1 Where stated, we provide the technical kit you'll need — for example boats, paddles, buoyancy aids and helmets. Please look after it and use it as shown.
11.2 Beyond fair wear and tear, we may charge you for equipment that's lost or damaged, and you agree to cover the cost of any damage caused deliberately or recklessly.
11.3 You're responsible for bringing and looking after your own personal kit and clothing, as set out on the kit list we send you.
12. Guided trips and expeditions
12.1 Our guided trips and expeditions are aimed at paddlers with suitable experience. We'll agree your suitability with you before you book.
12.2 An itinerary is a plan, not a promise. Weather, sea state, river levels, group ability and other factors may change the route, timing or objectives, and the lead coach will make those decisions in the interests of safety.
12.3 For multi-day, remote or committing trips you must have suitable personal insurance covering the activity, including — where relevant — medical cover, search and rescue, and repatriation. We may ask to see evidence of this.
12.4 Remote environments mean that outside help and evacuation can be delayed. By joining a trip you understand and accept this.
12.5 Deposits, balance dates and cancellation terms for trips and expeditions may differ from our standard courses, and we'll set these out clearly when you book.
13. Award training and assessment
13.1 Booking an award training course or assessment doesn't guarantee a qualification or a pass.
13.2 Assessment results are based on the awarding body's published criteria (for example Paddle Scotland, British Canoeing or Mountain Training) and on the assessor's professional judgement.
13.3 Awarding-body registration and certification fees may be additional and are usually payable to the awarding body, not to us. We'll let you know where this applies.
14. Insurance
14.1 We hold public liability insurance for our coaching and guiding work.
14.2 Our insurance does not cover your personal belongings, your own cancellation, or losses that fall outside our legal responsibility.
14.3 We strongly recommend — and for expeditions require — that you have your own personal accident, cancellation or curtailment, and activity or travel insurance appropriate to the course you've booked.
15. Our responsibility to you
15.1 We take safety seriously and plan and run sessions to manage risk as far as we reasonably can.
15.2 Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that can't be limited or excluded by law.
15.3 Subject to 15.2, we are not liable for loss of or damage to your personal property (except where it's caused by our negligence), for indirect or consequential losses, or for any failure caused by you, by a third party unconnected with the course, or by events beyond our reasonable control.
15.4 Subject to 15.2, where we're responsible for a course not being carried out as it should be, our liability to you is limited to the fees you paid us for that course.
15.5 None of this affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
16. Consumer cancellation rights
16.1 Because our courses are leisure activities booked for specific dates, the standard 14-day "cooling-off" right to cancel that applies to many online purchases does not normally apply to them. Your booking is covered by the cancellation terms in section 5 instead.
17. Events beyond our control
17.1 We won't be liable for any failure or delay in providing a course where it's caused by something beyond our reasonable control — for example severe weather, flood or storm, illness or disease outbreaks, government restrictions, or failure of transport or utilities. Where we can, we'll offer you a transfer to another date.
18. Photos and video
18.1 We sometimes take photos and video on our courses and trips and use them on our website and social media. We'll only do this with your consent and in line with data protection law.
18.2 If you'd prefer not to appear, just let us know when you book or tell the coach on the day, and we'll respect that.
19. Your privacy
19.1 We handle your personal information in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, to manage your booking and keep you and others safe. For more on how we use your information, see our Privacy Policy.
20. Complaints
20.1 If something isn't right, please tell the coach at the time so we can try to put it right straight away.
20.2 If it can't be resolved on the day, email us at corfecoaching@gmail.com and we'll acknowledge your complaint within five working days and do our best to resolve it quickly.
21. General
21.1 If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest will continue to apply.
21.2 These terms, and any dispute arising from them, are governed by the law of Scotland and subject to the Scottish courts. This doesn't affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
